Does Vitaros Represent a New Era in ED Remedies?

With the announced U.S. release of Vitaros on February 28, 2011, Apricus Biosciences, Inc. may have just revolutionized the multi-billion dollar market for erectile dysfunction remedies. Hailed by some as a superior alternative to industry mainstays Levitra, Viagra, and Cialis, Vitaros makes its American debut after a promising 2010 unveiling in Europe saw it grab a significant share of the $1.2 billion E.U. market for ED treatments.

From coast to coast, erectile dysfunction sufferers are already asking, “How is Vitaros different from those drugs already on the market, and what makes it any better?” Per Apricus Biosciences, there are two elements that differentiate the drug from its established competitors: its unique delivery system, and improved biochemical process.

Vitaros’ Delivery Mechanism

In contrast to the three erectile dysfunction remedies that represent its strongest competition, Vitaros is a topical cream – not a pill. This allows the drug to be administered topically to the penis, instead of being ingested.

In its announcement, Apricus Biosciences stated that the topical delivery of alprostadil (the active ingredient in Vitaros) enters the blood much more quickly than was previously possible when the drug was administered as a suppository or injection. In clinical studies, this resulted in patients gaining erections in only minutes, while experiencing none of the side effects typically associated with other erectile dysfunction drugs.

Vitaros – Why Does It Work?

Like its orally-administered competitors, Vitaros is effective in battling erectile dysfunction symptoms because it acts as a PDES (phosphodiesterase) inhibitor. This means that Vitaros inhibits the PDES enzyme, thereby allowing blood flow and cardiac activity to increase dramatically. An obvious effect of this is increased circulation to the extremities – including the penis.

The topical application of Vitaros seems to make a significant difference in this drug’s effectiveness when compared against its peers, however. Even those test subjects who had never responded to Levitra, Cialis, and Viagra enjoyed favorable results during the clinical studies. This offers a new ray of hope to men with severe ED symptoms.

Is Vitaros the New King of ED Remedies?

Only time will tell if Vitaros is able to establish itself as the new king of erectile dysfunction remedies. The fact that it does work much faster than oral pills, and seems to lack any of their potentially-dangerous side effects, does make it one of the more-intriguing additions to the ED industry in quite some time. If you are unable to take the other medications currently on the market, Vitaros is something that appears to be worth discussing with your physician.
