Many people are writing blogs these days, and blogs can help many people with useful information. Yet keeping up with a blog can be harder than you may realize. The content must be entertaining and easy to read.
Readers who aren’t pulled in by what they are reading are likely to leave for another blog. Humor can help to keep people coming back, but it’s important to follow a few guidelines.
Be yourself. Many blog writers make the mistake of trying to write like someone else. You may be able to fool your readers a few times, but eventually you will look like a phony. It is best to use your own style.
Don’t try to mimic your favorite comedians. They have their own style, and you have your own style. Your own style is enough – it’s great to add humor but if you try to mimic another you will soon be considered a phony.
Everyone has their own unique style of humor, and chances are, there is a whole niche of readers out there who will appreciate your own unique style.
Consider your audience. If you are writing a blog, you probably have a specific niche. There are likely demographic characteristics associated with your niche, so be sure to take this into consideration.
You’ll want to be sure you don’t offend your core audience, but at the same time, you won’t want to pander to them. You must be true to yourself in your writing, and so long as you add a bit of consideration for others, your core audience will come back for more.
Read it out loud. Be sure to read your blog out loud before actually posting it.
Reading your post out loud will help you to see how others may read it. If possible, read it out loud to another and ask how they interpret your words.
